General Blamey chose the Atherton Tablelands in far north Queensland as a training and holding area in December 1942. There is still an extensive network of foxholes, gun pits, trenches and some bunkers at the site of the Longland's Pocket Jungle Training Area near Atherton in tropical north Queensland. It was also known as Longland's Gap. It is located on Atherton Map (1:100,000), Zone No. 7963, Grid Reference 55K, 338204E, 8069541N.
